White Paper "More Flexibility in Production"

How machine constructors and manufacturing companies benefit from asset-as-a-service models

In machine and plant construction, innovations have long since ceased to apply only to products. They can be found all along the entire value chain – from R&D to Aftersales. And they are changing the business models: Instead of selling machines and plants, the manufacturers are making their products available in an asset-as-a-service model. They are thus developing from pure vendors to service providers. This can be of benefit to both sides, because overall agility and resilience are increasing. The manufacturers, for example, benefit because they are opening up new sales opportunities. For the user companies, the as-a-service approach is worthwhile because, for example, they can react flexibly to innovations in production methods and adjust in an agile manner to the demand for new products. However: Success does not come automatically. For implementation of the new business model, certain factors need to be considered.

In our White Paper "How machine constructors and manufacturing companies benefit from asset-as-a-service models", we describe the concept of asset-as-a-service models, outline the challenges and opportunities involved, and present what are in our opinion promising approaches to finding solutions that result in a win-win situation both on the demand and on the supply side. In doing so, we consider the perspective of the machine and plant constructors, as well as of the user companies, and define the relations between the various specialist departments on both sides.
