MHP is steadily pursuing the 1.5-degree target

Sustainable growth through climate strategy, consulting with the XDC model

  • right° confirms climate strategy of MHP as 1.5-degree compliant
  • MHP thereby complies with the targets of the Paris Climate Agreement
  • Management and IT consulting as one of eight official partner companies

Ludwigsburg – At the 2015 World Climate Conference in Paris, 195 countries agreed to limit the rise in the global average temperature to no more than 1.5 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels. MHP has been collaborating with the Frankfurt-based climate tech company right° for some time now to assess its climate strategy using the evidence-based X-Degree Compatibility (XDC) model. right° has now officially confirmed that the MHP strategy meets the Paris targets.

Marc Zimmermann, Group CFO at MHP: “right°’s scientifically-based XDC methodology opens up new opportu-nities for us to view decarbonization not only as an obligation, but also as an economic opportunity to increase our efficiency and competitiveness.”

1.5-degree compliant along the entire value chain

The XDC model measures a company’s climate impact by analyzing its value chain. In addition to a company’s direct greenhouse gas emissions, it also takes into account indirect emissions, such as those caused by upstream suppliers or service providers. This ensures that projections and forecasts are as realistic as possible.

Marius Schmidt, Manager at MHP, adds: “Working with XDC, we have been able to objectively assess our past emission reduction efforts and develop an optimal 1.5-degree strategy aligned with our value creation. As a re-sult, we believe we are well positioned for a better future.”

Not only is MHP itself 1.5-degree compliant using the XDC model, but as an official partner of right°, the man-agement and IT consultancy is also authorized to advise companies on decarbonization and sustainability com-pliance issues, provide strategic and operational support, and apply the model on a project basis. This makes the management and IT consultancy one of currently eight selected companies in Germany that are authorized to provide this consulting service.

Alexander Appel, Manager Transformation Advisory (TAD) at MHP: “As an XDC Direct Access Member of right°, we help our customers to transition to more sustainable business practices and empower them to create lasting impact. With our own commitment to 1.5 degrees Celsius, we underscore the relevance of targeted decarboniza-tion and our commitment to actively shaping a more sustainable future for both our customers and ourselves.”

About right°

In 2015, the United Nations agreed to do everything in its power to limit global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius. In 2016, right. based on science (right° for short) was founded with a strictly scientific approach and a clear goal: to provide companies with software solutions and metrics that enable them to view the challenging targets aris-ing from the Paris Climate Agreement as an opportunity to balance economic success with CO2 reduction.

With the X-Degree Compatibility (XDC) model, the right° founders, Hannah Helmke and Dr. Sebastian Müller, have developed a scientifically sound methodology that can be used to calculate the complex climate impacts of companies, buildings, and financial portfolios (stocks, private equity, bonds, government bonds) in a simple and understandable way – in degrees Celsius – with the aid of climate metrics.
