Interview with Mexico CEO Stefan Widmer

One year of MHP in Mexico: 6 questions, 6 answers

Since the end of 2024, Stefan Widmer has been CEO of MHP's Mexican subsidiary based in Guadalajara – an important component of MHP's international growth strategy. One year after the launch, he takes stock: How has the location developed, what role does Mexico play in the global MHP network, and what drives the local team? This is what is discussed in the following Q&A.

MHP Mexico has been up and running for a year now. What has been your personal highlight?
When I look back on the first twelve months, it is clearly the speed at which we have grown – as a necessity for our global delivery capabilities and power. We started with seven colleagues and that number had already grown to over 70 by the end of the year. I became particularly aware of this leap at our team event in October, when we paused for a second and realized just how far we had come in such a short space of time. That was a really nice moment and a real milestone for me personally.

You have been living in Mexico for over six years. What do you especially appreciate – and how does it differ to Switzerland or Germany?
I am taken by people’s openness and warmth, which makes it incredibly easy to strike up friendships and acquaintances in everyday life. In the course of my day-to-day work, I especially see a very strong work ethic – people are flexible and focused on their goals. The common stereotype doesn’t ring true here at all. Although the hierarchies are more conspicuous, we are specifically seeking people with real initiative – this is how we remain equally agile when adopting top-down and bottom-up approaches.

How did you build the team in Mexico – and what makes it so special?
The initiative in the team is special – and the fact that we really embrace MHP values such as entrepreneurship, integrity, and partnerships. We consistently focus on these aspects when hiring new staff. At the same time, our most important task is to adapt the organizational structures to the pace of our growth. That is why we are defining additional leadership and responsibility roles and honing our processes, especially in middle management.

What opportunities do you see for MHP in the Mexican market?
Mexico has a large pool of young STEM talent, and precisely therein lies a key opportunity for us: We want to further increase the proportion of junior professionals without compromising on quality so that we can make our delivery organization – the teams and locations that are responsible for the operational implementation of customer projects – even more competitive in the long term and build up specific knowledge.

What role does Mexico play in the global MHP network?
As a Global Delivery Center, we are the nearshore partner for MHP USA and support projects in the United States with our competitive setup. At the same time, more and more inquiries are coming from Germany when customers with offices in Latin America prefer to work locally. This is how we are also gradually expanding our own network in the American time zone and boosting cooperation across locations.

What is your vision for MHP Mexico?
We remain clearly demand-driven and quickly want to see the size of our team reach the three-digit mark. This will allow us to continue to build on our role as a Global Delivery Center, achieve additional economies of scale, and offer an even more competitive service. We also want to continue to consolidate MHP’s culture locally, strengthen our positioning as an employer, and further enhance our status as a strong nearshore partner for MHP USA.
