The cross-company planning and control of the supply chain is becoming increasingly important for organizations in our VUCA world. Because a coordinated supply chain means more efficient processes for all parties involved and thus decreasing costs, as well as prompt and reliable deliveries to the customers. However, in reality the successful implementation of holistic supply chain management is often very difficult. The corona pandemic revealed many weaknesses in the supply chain of companies: first and foremost, insufficient transparency, high dependencies of individual suppliers, as well as rigid processes. At the same time, the volatility of demand is increasing at an alarming rate. Sudden and short-term changes in requirements have also become more common. Against this background the importance of a sustainable, resilient, and responsive supply chain is increasing dramatically. This is achieved using a high-performance and highly integrated planning application such as SAP Integrated Business Planning (SAP IBP).
The realization of the full potential of the SAP IBP planning application depends on the proper implementation approach. At the beginning the managers should formulate and communicate the agreed objectives in the respective departments. It is extremely important to identify the obstacles and pain points which stand in the way of the objectives. In the next step the aspects are checked against the requirements of the planning processes and the future planning application. If the requirements have been determined in a structured manner, the appropriate implementation approach can be selected in the final step. And taking into account other conditions such as budget and time constraints.
In our MHPDeepDive "Effective implementation of resilient and responsive supply chain (RSC) with SAP IBP", we initially examine the core challenges in Sales and Operations Planning (S&OP) and Sales Inventory and Operations Planning (SIOP). Then we present two basic implementation approaches and familiarize you with the respective advantages and disadvantages.
What awaits you in our MHPDeepDive:
- We show you why RSC is more important than ever and why SAP IBP is the right tool for the implementation
- We describe our structured procedure for the selection of an implementation approach for S&OP or SIOP processes in SAP IBP
- You become acquainted with two different implementation approaches (advantages and disadvantages)
