Study shows how Germans use AI tools to search for their dream vacation – and why not

ChatGPT, voice assistants, booking platforms with intelligent suggestion functions: Artificial intelligence (AI) can speed up and optimize vacation planning.

Nevertheless, it has been little used so far. How keen are Germans currently to use AI tools for travel? What could be improved? And what can companies learn from user behavior in order to offer more successful AI services?

Our new study provides figures on this

Only 15% of the more than 3,000 respondents have used AI for travel planning several times, while 13% have used it once. The main reason for this reluctance is that almost 39% did not know that AI can help with vacation planning and find interesting destinations, affordable prices, flights, hotels, or ideal travel routes.

Technically, the potential is there – but there is a lack of visibility, trust, and concrete value propositions. Anyone developing AI-based travel aids today must be convincing not only technologically, but also communicatively.

  • Only 15%

    rely on AI.

  • 29%

have never used AI for their travel planning.

  • 39%

are unaware that AI can be beneficial.
