Despite a general drop in imports and exports due to the coronavirus pandemic, international trade by companies in Germany remains strong from both perspectives. In 2020, Germany exported goods worth 1,204.7 billion euros, ranking the country as the world’s third-largest exporter. Goods imported into Germany in the same year were worth 1,025.6 billion euros. These figures make it clear that foreign trade processes are important for a large proportion of companies in Germany, many of which rely on an effective global trade management system to do business. Several companies have been using the functions offered via the SAP ECC for this purpose, but the move to SAP S/4HANA means that significant changes can be expected.
SAP S/4HANA still offers the functionality that is essential for foreign trade within its International Trade module. However, some of these functions are different than the ones that companies have been using to date. In addition, some specific processes are not covered at all. Companies now have two options: Either use specialized foreign trade add-ons offered by third parties to systematically compensate for these omissions and integrate the relevant functions as required, or switch to the more comprehensive SAP Global Trade Services solution, which is designed for complex international business processes and system landscapes. The question is: Which solution is best suited to your individual requirements? Only a comprehensive analysis can answer this question.
During our MHPDeepDive “Mapping foreign Trade Processes with SAP,” we will present the SAP S/4HANA International Trade module in more detail and demonstrate how the solution is different from SAP Global Trade Services (GTS). We will also explain how to make the right choice for your company, and why MHP is the right partner for your transformation.
