Corporate Social Responsibility is meanwhile firmly anchored in the strategies of many companies. They no longer have only the economic targets in view, but also assume responsibility for social and ecological aspects in order to be able to ensure long-term economic success. However, CSR does not cover the many opportunities and risks resulting in the context of digitalization. In this respect, beside Corporate Social Responsibility, Corporate Digital Responsibility is also necessary. CDR takes into account, among other things, the positive and negative effects of digital technologies on social and ecological aspects. Furthermore, a central area is the handling of data and algorithms beyond existing legal questions. In future, this will also involve the decision regarding the extent to which people trust a company. Precisely for the C levels, it is therefore an important task to establish Corporate Digital Responsibility in one's own company.

For this purpose, companies should look more closely at the comparatively new CDR concept: What are the general aspects, and which aspects are relevant to one's own company? What do the various stakeholders expect and how can all expectations be equally fulfilled? And what does CDR mean for the organization? Ideally, CSR and CDR will then be strategically bundled in the company as Corporate Responsibility. The general themes should finally be defined and implemented as clear fields of action along a roadmap. In this connection, adequate organizational anchoring becomes a key element.

In our MHPDeepDive "Corporate Digital Responsibility", we will first explain what is understood by the term CDR, how the concept relates to CSR, and what relevance digital responsibility has for organizations and their stakeholders. Furthermore, we will show how we understand CDR and what procedure we suggest for its implementation in a company.

What awaits you in our MHPDeepDive:

  • You will find out what is understood by Corporate Digital Responsibility.
  • We will show what relevance CDR has for companies now and in future.
  • We will explain how CDR can be implemented in the overall context of corporate responsibility.
