TOPICS AT A GLANCE
- The challenge: In many companies, the mainframe computer still very much exists. They typically run legacy applications that store and process huge amounts of data. However, these mainframe computers cannot continue to operate forever.
- The solution: There are a number of benefits that come with migrating mainframe computers to the cloud, including cost savings, greater flexibility, and the ability to leverage modern cloud services.
- Our approach: With our “MHP Mainframe Transformation Factory” process model, we support you throughout the entire transition.
Mainframe computers had their time to shine from the 1960s to the 1980s, yet they continue to be present in many companies to this day. This has nothing to do with sentimentality or convenience. Mainframe computers still serve a purpose: They run legacy applications that store and process huge amounts of data.
So, do we just leave everything as it is? This is not an option simply because fewer and fewer people have the skills required to work with these systems. Realistically, who is still learning COBOL? In addition, there are high operating and maintenance costs, with the lack of experts being just one of several drivers.
Finally, its lack of compatibility in the connected world is increasingly becoming a problem. So, there really is no way around migrating mainframe landscapes. Cloud environments such as the AWS cloud offer the perfect technological framework for this. But this change is not as trivial as it may sound. A comprehensive migration strategy needs to be carefully planned and meticulously implemented. It’s about minimizing disruption, ensuring a smooth transition, and most importantly, preserving valuable data and processes.
In our MHPDeepDive “Transition to the AWS cloud with MHP Mainframe Transformation Factory”, we will present our process model. This includes all phases of the migration of a mainframe system: from evaluating the current situation and selecting the best modernization option right through to the final technical migration.
