The circular economy and its core idea of avoiding the waste of resources through re-use is a guiding principle of the sustainable transformation and is increasingly finding its place as a central field of action in corporate strategies. In many respects and in different ways, industrial companies are connected with the global challenges arising from climate change, resource scarcity and the resulting consequences: with their products and services, their consumption of resources and their employees and their mobility behavior – to name just a few examples.
On account of the changing global conditions, not only regulatory stipulations for industry are becoming increasingly strict. Also the reputations of companies are increasingly dependent on their contribution to sustainable development. Younger generations have different expectations of companies – as customers and also as employees. Talk of a "licence to operate" is becoming more and more common. If this is absent, companies will barely be able to find a place in the labor and sales markets of tomorrow.
This now leads to the question: How can industrial companies successfully implement the transformation to the circular economy?
A transformation can only succeed if it is organized holistically and comprises the three dimensions of "products", "processes" and "data". MHP suggests a data-centric perspective as a "digital circular economy", which already today uses existing technologies in increasingly digital product portfolios and working procedures in order to accelerate the necessary transformation to sustainable and at the same time profitable economic activity.
