Redesign of Porsche “Paint to Sample” website feature
- MHP modernizes the “Paint to Sample” website for Porsche, featuring intuitive user navigation and a con-temporary front-end design.
- On the interactive website, visitors can explore a wide range of colors and find inspiration for the perfect paint finish for their Porsche.
- The entire website was launched in just three months, thanks to MHP’s deep expertise and close collabora-tion with the experts at Style Porsche.
Ludwigsburg/Stuttgart – Whether Atakamayellow for the 911 or Aetnablue for the Panamera – with the online service “Paint to Sample,” current Porsche models can be individually configured in a wide range of colors beyond the standard palette. The selection of available paints is extensive and continues to grow. For the 911 and all other model lines, customers can currently choose from more than 190 colors in total. The configuration can also be shared directly via social media, making it easy to showcase a personalized Porsche design. Coinciding with the new model year, Porsche planned to update and redesign its “Paint to Sample” website – offering even more customization options and the most intuitive user experience possible.
“Prospective buyers can experiment with more than 190 colors for the 911, Taycan, Panamera, Macan, and Cayenne models on the website, helping them make an informed choice,” says Boris Apenbrink, Director Limited Vehicles & Options at Porsche AG. “The new technology delivers an even better user experience – especially thanks to the newly added background information on each color.”
After a comprehensive selection process, Porsche chose the management and IT consultancy MHP as its partner for the planned website relaunch. Markus Wambach, Group COO at MHP, commented: “We have also worked with Porsche on several highly successful web projects in the past – for example, the 3D product configurator, which allows customers to design their dream Porsche online. Thanks to that shared project experience, we were able to deliver this relaunch in a very short timeframe.”
Attractive visualization with high color accuracy
Since the new website needed to be available in time for the annual model update, the project team had just under three months to complete the redesign, create content, and develop the user interface – including intuitive user navigation. In addition to delivering high image quality and other computationally intensive visualization features, Porsche and MHP prioritized an outstanding user experience with minimal load times and latency. To achieve this, they chose the powerful Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud platform to host the content.
Florian Langer, Partner at MHP, explains: “The new website and its underlying technology should adapt to the needs of the users – not the other way around. That required not only excellent web design expertise, but also extensive hands-on experience from everyone involved. Another key focus of the new ’Paint to Sample’ configurator is the modernized look and feel. To achieve this, we worked closely with Style Porsche.“
Of particular note is the high color accuracy of the visualizations, achieved through spectral measurement of real paint samples. Thanks to the nearly fully automated image generation based on original styling data, customers can now view new colors on their vehicles with high efficiency and in a very short amount of time.
Successful go-live and highly positive feedback
Thanks to excellent collaboration, Porsche and MHP successfully completed the website within the specified timeframe. Boris Apenbrink commented: “Since then, we’ve received consistently positive feedback on the redesigned website – especially regarding the new user interface. We now have a site that better meets our customers’ needs and empowers them to make confident color choices – a decision that often marks the starting point into the Porsche Customization World.”
