Opening the industrial cloud to accelerate digitalization of production and logistics

MHP one of the first pioneering partners on board

Ludwigsburg – On Thursday, 23 July 2020, Volkswagen AG, together with Amazon Web Services (AWS) opened its industrial cloud for partner companies from the areas of manufacturing and technology. Until now, Volkswagen has integrated only Volkswagen factories via the industrial cloud in order to achieve more efficient production and logistics processes. For the start of the open network, eleven international pioneering partners have been added, including MHP management and IT consulting company from Ludwigsburg. "As a strong and close partner, we want to exploit new business opportunities and protect the future of digital production and logistics," says Markus Wambach, partner and member of the Board of Management at MHP. "We can thus bring in our strengths end-to-end and with a view to the entire value chain, and provide appropriate services that help to harmonize processes across factory boundaries."

As an open [I]IoT platform, the industrial cloud standardizes the joint use and exchange of data, in order to facilitate the development of new digital solutions for production, logistics and the entire supply chain. The partners can network with the individual factories and offer via the industrial cloud their applications for optimizing production processes. In this way, the number of applications for the Volkswagen factories will increase rapidly.

MHP as a system integrator and implementation partner

MHP has been involved in the industrial cloud project already since 2019. By supporting numerous Volkswagen-specific use cases, the Porsche subsidiary actively contributes to increasing the efficiency of production and logistics.

Michael Appel, partner and Head of CIO Advisory at MHP: "We see ourselves as a multiplier of the industrial cloud and support Volkswagen and the community partners in successfully identifying, implementing and marketing their solutions." As a pioneering partner of the industrial cloud, MHP brings in its competence in the following areas:

  • Definition of the long-term [I]IoT strategy and derivation of modular task packages
  • Identification of possible use case requirements and outlining of the respective solution approaches taking into consideration the industrial cloud conformity and integration of existing platform services
  • Definition of business models
  • Implementation of solutions and successful realization of use cases on the industrial cloud
  • Training of end customers in the successful implementation of the solution, as well as marketing and placement in the IC eco-system and the external market

3 in 1: Platform, community, marketplace

The industrial cloud, which constitutes an open platform, a community and a perspective marketplace for cloud-based solutions, assists Volkswagen and other partners in creating more efficient and productive processes in production and logistics. The entire delivery chain is to be connected to the cloud, thus facilitating the exchange of data across systems and factories. The basis is formed of AWS technologies in the areas of the Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning, data analytics and computing services, which have been extended to cover the special requirements of Volkswagen and the automotive industry. This promotes the development of the industrial cloud as a whole, and ultimately all involved will benefit: partner companies that offer specialized applications for individual Volkswagen factories and are thus able to consolidate their specialist knowledge. They can thus further develop their own software and use it to optimize their business processes and products.
