“Creating an “Embedded Autonomy” for Intelligent Machines”

Driven by ever growing technical possibilities, one of the primary prospects of digitizing production rests in the fundamental change of processes. Here, possibilities and challenges of creating a dynamic production shall be presented. A Prerequisite for this is the standardization of machine connection, which reduces integration efforts and has a stabilizing impact on digitization projects in manufacturing. Based on this, a concept of “embedded autonomy” for intelligent machines will be presented, which establishes the prerequisites for further flexibility. Utilizing a close integration of Automated Guided Vehicles, this allows the creation of a flexible job scheduling, requiring a powerful control logic and implying a transition to an algorithmic manufacturing. A framework for such a solution based on the SAP Manufacturing Suite (ME, MII and PCo) will be presented.
