Flexibility is the most important driver
MHP presents its study on Industry 4.0
Ludwigsburg, 01.12.2014 – The increasing need for companies to be able to flexibly respond to changes is the most important driver for Industry 4.0. This is the key result learned from the study “Industry 4.0 – A Viewpoint of the Automotive and Manufacturing Industries”, which MHP presented on Monday (01.12.2014) as part of a press conference in the MHPArena Ludwigsburg. MHP studyed a total of 227 persons from the automotive and manufacturing industries as to how they assessed Industry 4.0, how they are promoting the topic in their companies and what barriers exist.
Even though Industry 4.0 is a much discussed topic for quite some time now, it is not yet a topic that everyone has heard about. As a result, 24 % of respondents drew a blank when they heard the term – an astonishingly high value. In addition, there is a great deal of skepticism regarding Germany’s role in Industry 4.0. Only half of those asked felt that Germany would be able to establish itself as a trailblazer in this field. The good news, however, is that Industry 4.0 is being advanced in most companies by the managers.
Dr. Oliver Kelkar, responsible for the area “Innovation Management” at MHP and author of the study: “The results of the study are clear: Industry 4.0 concepts must become more transparent and better known. The benefit for companies – and this applies in particular for SMEs – must become tangible. A big effort is thus required here from all sides: Politics, associations, technology providers and the industrial companies responsible for implementation. The biggest risk is that we act too slowly and thus miss out on valuable competitive advantages.”
