Experience report from a pilot project of an automobile supplier company

In order to be competitive also in future, companies must take every opportunity to optimize their logistics chain. For this purpose, Kanban has been in use for a long time - simple means are used to regulate the material supply for the production line. However, the method also has weaknesses: The time-delayed or bundled data collection from Kanban cards can lead to considerable failures or even to production standstill. To prevent this, the logistics must provide support with more resources - i.e. more employees and vehicles - than would be necessary in the case of constant data collection of consumptions.
