Ludwigsburg wins "Very good young player development location" award

Neckar RIESEN Ludwigsburg and their Basketball Academy win award for their young player development activities

Ludwigsburg has this year - similar to last year - again been recognised as a "Very good young player development location" by the German Beko Basketball League.

This is the third year in a row that the efforts of the Ludwigsburg young player program have caught the attention of the Beko BBL. In 2011, Ludwigsburg won the award for the best young player development program, while in 2012 and now again in 2013, the baroque city has been awarded the silver medal as a "Very good young player development location". The award includes prize money of 12,000 Euro.

"It is not just the Basketball Academy that has made tremendous progress in recent years. Great work - encompassing a very extensive program - is also being carried out overall at the Ludwigsburg club to support young players", says the Beko BBL CEO Jan Pommer. "This is reflected in their rating".

"We are proud with our commitment, as a premium partner of the Neckar RIESEN Ludwigsburg, to be part of this success" says Ingo Guttenson, Marketing manager at MHP. He also emphasised the fact that finding new and upcoming talent is of key importance to MHP as a leading Process + IT consulting firm and no. 1 automotive expert.

The Beko BBL evaluated the young player development activities of the clubs based on a point system, which is based on the following:

  • The professional team's setup for young player development
  • The quality and quantity of the trainers working in the young player developmment area
  • The sports medicine/psychological support available to the young players
  • The training conditions
  • The organisation in the young player area
  • The support/supervision conditions in terms of education
  • The commitment together with schools (in particular school communities and
  • the general approach

A total of 11 Beko BBL locations were awarded gold (Exemplary young player development location), silver (Very good young player development location) and bronze (Good young player development location).

Mario Probst, Manager of the Ludwigsburg Basketball Academy, declared himself satisfied by this result as it confirms that the club has the right approach and is headed in the right direction: "The Neckar RIESEN Ludwigsburg and the Basketball Academy are delighted to have again received this award from the Beko BBL. This confirms to us that we are on the right road and gives everyone involved even greater motivation for the next steps and projects!"
